Taft Fabric
Taft is a glossy weave of silk or artificial silk in a plain weave. It is derived from the Persian word ‘taffeta’, which means ‘twisted woven’. Thin fibers are used for this material, resulting in a fine weave. Originally, taffeta was made exclusively from silk. Today, affordable alternatives are produced from various fibers such as polyester, rayon or polyamide.
Why taffeta?
Taffeta silk is lightweight but stiff. Due to its stiffness, it can be shaped or draped well. The fabric is eye-catching. Some taffeta fabrics are made of weft and warp yarns in different colors. These taft fabrics seem to change color. Depending on the lighting of the surroundings, different color shades become visible.
Taft is a good choice as a fabric for prom dresses, cocktail dresses, party skirts, bridal wear and other party wear. Taffeta is also used as a lining fabric.
